The Mystery Yarn Game

Play a fun game with your friends! Gift a Mystery skein of yarn with the real labels hidden. Give fun clues to test your friend's yarn knowledge. When they've guessed have them unwrap the faux-band! 

How to Play:

1)  Choose your victim(s).  This part is up to you; I trust that you can do it!

2)  Choose the yarn.  This can be from your own stash, from your favorite LYS, or craft store.  It will probably work best with largely known brands if you want them to have a good chance of guessing correctly.  If this is a gift, you will probably want to make sure it is *nice* yarn that they will like; leave the yarn barf skein at home.

3)  Print out your Mystery Yarn Game (MYG) yarn bands on cardstock, scrapbook paper, or other thick paper.  Cut out your bands and find the best fit to the yarn.

4)  Hide in your closet!  This part is secret!

5)  Inspecting the yarn, write clues on the MYG bands that may or may not help the recipient guess what yarn it is.  Don’t say anything that is untrue, but unhelpful clues are okay.  (i.e.  Manufacturers do not recommend knitting a thong with this yarn.)  Get creative!

6)  Tape the MYG bands covering over the real band.  As yarn bands vary, it may not cover completely.  In this case you can insert a wide strip of scrapbook paper, or other colorful paper, underneath the MYG band so there isn’t any of the real band peaking out.  Alternatively, you can remove the yarn band, fold it and tape it to the back the MYG Band.

7)  Hide your stash until party time.  (This should be routine anyway!)

8)  Present your stash to your chosen victim, instructing him/her to read the yarn carefully…

9)  Laugh manically as your victim starts sniffing and fondling the yarn.

Variation:  Print out a bunch of MYG bands and send them in party invitations to your  friends.  Have each person bring one mystery yarn to swap.  Everyone has fun!
