I am Rachel of Rachel’s Cozy Knits & Designs. I currently hang my mad-artist cap in Portland, Oregon. My passions are my God, my family, creating beauty in the world, and inspiring others. I craft daily to retain peace in a stressful world! I found my perfect medium in the world of fiber arts; knitting, spinning, crochet, pattern design, and sewing. I post my artist’s-journal online in the hopes that you, too, will be inspired and cast on!
My Story
I have crafted things with my hands since I was very little. My mom encouraged my sisters and I to be creative, and my God blessed me with an artistic gene, so I have always able to think outside the box. I have continued to be creative in my own home as I have low budget but still like to have nice things.
When I was pregnant with my third child in 2011 I started feeling like a waste of space while lying fatigued on my couch. I decided I wanted to learn a mobile craft that was low-cost and could be justified as making something useful for the family.
I took up knitting and found the friend I never knew.
I've made blankets, scarves and hats, dishcloths (lots of dishcloths!), toys, gifts, socks, shawls and more. (My favorite things to knit are socks and toys.) I started knitting every evening for hours and when I got better at the craft I started toting it around with me everywhere. I think my husband thought I was a little weird about it at first but by now I think he understands, or at least he has come to respect my obsession.
Knitting is now a way to help me reduce stress and hold off the insanity that comes with being a mother of three. It's not the easiest life juggling a homeschooler and a public schooler while another is hanging on my apron strings but I strive to give each individual my best. Knitting feeds my creative gene, satisfies my O.C.D. streak, and brings me peace and an adventure at the same time.
